Life of astronauts in space is demanding and interesting. Astronauts are taking trips out of Earth to conduct scientific studies, fly spacecraft and study the environment of space. They have a routine that is strategized to make sure that they are safe, productive and healthy.
Microgravity is one of the greatest problems that astronauts have to deal with. Space has very little gravity, and these have an impact on the functioning of the human body. Eating, sleeping and moving are simple activities that require special techniques. Astronauts will be forced to learn to walk by floating.
Space schedules are very rigid. The astronauts adhere to very strong schedules which are composed of scientific experiments, maintenance schedule, physical workouts, and communication with the mission control. Having a schedule keeps them at their place and productive.
Physical activity is a mandatory element of space life. The muscles and bones can weaken with time without having a gravity present. To ensure their health during long missions, astronauts undergo special machinery to do physical exercises.
Food in space is prepared and packed specially. Astronauts consume dehydrated or ready-to-eat food which is convenient to store and eat in zero-gravity conditions. Health and energy are essential to proper nutrition.
The sleeping on the space is also not comparable with sleeping on the earth. Sleeping bags are attached to walls or ceiling by astronauts to ensure that these bags do not drift as the astronauts sleep. Sleep schedule is critical to the mental and physical health.
Isolation and confinement is also experienced by astronauts. It could be difficult to be without family and have a small area to live. The positive environment can be maintained through communication with loved ones and interaction between the crew members.
Nonetheless, astronauts get a chance of a lifetime to view the earth in space and perform researches that cannot be carried out here on earth. Their work also advances the sphere of knowledge and contributes to the preparation of the future missions to space.
All in all, living in space entails discipline, adaptability and teamwork. Astronauts are highly beneficial to the process of space exploration and the increase of our knowledge of the universe.
